Bach Rock & Shakespeare XIX

Event Information

     Grammy Signature School Award winner, John Marshall High will present its 19th year of “Bach, Rock, & Shakespeare” Friday, May 27th, at The Greek Theatre, a unique display of youthful exuberance, after two-years of online concerts.  The evening will be composed of a performance by the Marshall Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dee Dee Panero, in her last performance before retiring.   The event will also include music students from Marshall’s feeder schools, including Irving Middle School as well as Lockwood, Los Feliz, Franklin, and Ivanhoe Elementary Schools, joining the Marshall Symphony on stage for a grand finale. Also featured are Marshall’s Shakespeare class, teacher Adam Brock, the Marshall Dance Troupe, teacher Jill Diamond, the Marshall Jazz Ensemble, teacher Emerson Cardenas and the finals from Marshall’s year-long and 25 years running, Battle of the Garage Bands contest, hosted by Mike Finn and Dee Dee Panero and judged by celebrity judges.  


      The event is a unique partnership between Marshall High, The Los Angeles Parks Foundation, Los Angeles City Council Districts 4 and 13, the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council, Little Kids Rock, and The Greek Theatre’s management, SMG.  Marshall High is a comprehensive public high school of 2000 students, located in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. Though its iconic gothic tower sits in one of LA’s most scenic neighborhoods and its high-performing students are accepted into the nation’s most prestigious universities, 74% of the student body receives free or reduced-price lunch and 55% of the total student-body has another language spoken in their homes.
